Hitachi GDR 3120L
Well, basically I want to know what I would need to flash a Hitachi GDR 3120L drive. I have an elite I got for free, and I dont need the HDMI, but a friend of mine does, so he wants to trade xbox's plus some cash. So, is this drive as easy, or easier to flash? I dont have to solder connection points together like the lite on right?
Also, if I were to open the xbox's and switch the drives, would it work? Or would I need to extract the drive keys, and switch them or what?

Re: Hitachi GDR 3120L
well if its a v79 its a pain
it can be done dont get me wrong
but
its the hardest one to flash as far as im concerned.
you can not just swap the dvd drives around it will not work that way.
you have to get the key from both drive and spoof the firmware in both if thay are different dvd drives that is.

Re: Hitachi GDR 3120L
What about the toshiba-samsung TS-H943A? My other xbox appears to have this drive. (The xbox I flash doesnt matter, as long as I have 1 flashed and 1 not.)
I used an image and the tray looks similar, but for wires there are red AND black. (http://www.tronix.co.nz/images/xbox_360 ... cation.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) I used that image and it says only red wires...
PS:
I just read on llamma.com that the drive is the most forgiving etc and almost impossible to brick. The MS25 is super easy but the MS28 requires a hardware mod before you can flash it.
- Is this true? Or is the source out of date, and now they are both the same to flash?
Any way I can find out what drive I have aside from opening it up?

the samsung drive it the best
all dvd drives can be flash with out doing anything to the dvd drive, but there is some stuff you may have to buy.

Re: Hitachi GDR 3120L
Is there any difference between the ms25 and the ms28? I tried googling it for like an hour and found nothing specific.
Re: Hitachi GDR 3120L
not much at all
the v25 was one of the first dvd drives for the 360.
if you are thinking about getting a replacement dvd drive i would get a 28

Re: Hitachi GDR 3120L
Well I think this drive is an ms25 TBH, because if I remember correctly this xbox was purchased like a week after the release date.
Also, twice when I opened the drive the disk came out spinning, why would this be?

Re: Hitachi GDR 3120L
Once you flash an ms25, it in essence becomes a 28...
As for the spinning, I had that with my first xbox (which had a sammy ms25, but I haven't seen it since)

And if at first you don't succeed..? Order the damn card!

Mirc is a place to chat, post up on the site for help!!!
Re: Hitachi GDR 3120L
if the firmware sends the open command before the stop (for waht ever reason) it will do that.
i have seen it a few time but not many.

Re: Hitachi GDR 3120L
Its only happened to me twice and I have had it since about a week after the release in canada.
So what would be the easiest/most user friendly way to flash this sammy?

Re: Hitachi GDR 3120L
iPrep seems complex to me, dos seems intimidating haha.
Re: Hitachi GDR 3120L
its not bad at all
if you did type something wrong it would just tell you that.
if you dont have a via chipset you can try this program.
but if it locks up after a erase you will have your work cut out for you then.

Re: Hitachi GDR 3120L
Im just worried that I will cause damage to my computer. IE: Flash the wrong drive etc...
I will probably use iPrep, but I have a couple questions:
1) Where do I get the samsung firmware? (Is it available on xbins or something?)
2) Why do you have to put the serial from your xbox? is it just for better stealth basically?
4) Where does iPrep save the drive key and original FW, is it just in like 'Program Files\iPrep\backup\' ?
5) Also, what do I need to download and where do I save it? I know with like jungle flasher, you need to download ixtreme, and all these other things, what do I need for this? (Or is it all included with iprep)

3)Thats your disk drive in your computer, you didnt disconnect it right? Is it a big deal if I dont disconnect mine, and just choose no when it shows my drive (Lite-on DVDRW Clearly not a samsung ms25) If you look at the picture of my comp, in this thread about midway down the page you can see only 1 sata connection and thats for my HDD, am I right?2) 0x00170 IDE SEC Master Atapi SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-2487 R602 MTK intro failed on port 0x00170 If you choose to resend the command you should turn the drive off then on after you pressed yes
Do you want to resend the command until the drive responds? (Y/N)

Re: Hitachi GDR 3120L
Hi Haggardsmurf. Iprep's really easy to use but there's nothing stopping you removing all extra drives/hd's etc.
1: Yeah its available on xbins
2: Stick the original serial in just to be safe ( the mtk failed you posted is an Ide drive not a sata)
3: For the easiest way to avoid compatiability problems it's worthwhile investing in the Via card
4: No it saves them to the usb stick In backups/xxxxxxx/xxxxx (where x's would be your serial number
5: You would have to download iprep and the ixtreme firmware for your drive. Instal iprep, run it, then load the ixtreme firmware in for your drive, click on the destination of your usb and iprep will do the rest. (also click on make bootable and include batch files) You could also check that your sata port is present on the Liteon only tab on the right hand side and take note of your port number
It sounds slightly more complicated than it really is. Once you've used it once it's a doddle. Good luck mate
