hi all , as my elite benq vad6038 drive has just died (13months old) giving me the "open tray" error... i am looking at a hitachi drive thinking i can spoof it into my old benq (i have the orig fw) but cant find any info for that way around theres spoofing of all drives into benq but not any for turning a hit into a ben ? ? ?
as this is a tremendous site i beleive some 1 will reply to my query
or a sammy into my old benq im in trouble beleiving i gota spoof as i cant find a new benq replacement drive in uk
also another Q if a drive is bought in us for a uk xb36 is that drive region locked to us ?

I've never had to do one that way either, but I'm sure it'll be fine...

In terms of region code, I'm pretty sure that's set by the NAND chip in the console, not the DVD drive which means it wouldn't matter where the drive is from...

you can get a dvd drive from any where and it will work after you put in your hacked firmware.

here is a guide for spoofing a hit dvd drive into a samsung.its the same thing ,but you would do it for a benq dvd drive.
the new firmware toolbox is v4.8.the guide was made using v4.6.

i think i would keep looking and get a benq dvd drive that way there would be no spoofing.after that i would get a samsung v28 dvd drive,but that is just me.

dont lose that copy of your orig firmware.

many thanks lilrevuk thats eased my mind. i was gona order from us made me think of regions, of course its the console .
just wont matter it'd cost $215 shipped to uk and cant find a uk 1 yet.

personally I would swap to an ms28 rather than a hitachi but thats just my preference...

They are on ebay but mostly from china/hong kong... I prefer UK companies..
1 thing for certain is if u find an ms28 stockist they will also stock hits
