i purchased a 360 with rrod. drilled out case like it said do in tutorials and put screws with washers with no luck. Then saw penny trick so I figured what the hell. Tried it and bolts were not long enough so i put x-clamp back on and didnt tighten it to chassis. turned it on and green lights came on for about 30 secs and then rrod. got code and it related to gpu not tightened properly. So i went to store bought longer bolts and more washers and it worked....so i have to give credit to the penny trick. I took it apart about 50 times and drove the wife crazy. I just wanted to give thanks to this site for all help.
the only thing it is a hit 59 drive and unflashed when i put originals in it says unplayabe discs. Are all the drives pretty much the same when taking them apart or different for cleaning purposes. Thanks again

Re: sigh of relief
well I took the drive apart because it was not spinning. It now reads audio cd's but no dvd movies or 360 original games. Any ideas on what to do now? when it tries to read games and dvds it makes a clicking noise. If I can't get it to work an buy another dvd drive how do I install it just put it in? thanks.

If it were me, it being a hitachi drive, I would dump the firmware out of it. Then get a samsung or benq drive, dump it, inject the key from the hitachi, spoof it and flash it and then throw that hitachi in the trash. You can leave it stock or hacked either way.
