Help Needed! Drive wont flash
Help Needed! Drive wont flash
right, i have followed the guide and videos.... created bootable usb with iprep, went into the dos, did dSam xxxxxxx xxxxx (where x is my SN), and i get an error:
No Drive Detected
Error: File BACKUPS\xxxxxxx\xxxxx\Sam-OFW.bin does not exist! Program Aborted!
I have tested my 360 and it is still playing games, so im guessing its not bricked.
Can anyone offer any suggestion as to why this is happening ?
Thanks

Re: Help Needed! Drive wont flash
when are you plugging the sata cable to the drive? are you tuning the pc and 360 on at the same time without the sata plugged in.
heres how i do it, turn both pc on and 360 (without sata plugged in to drive) go to boot menu boot iprep. at iprep terms of use page i the plug the sata cable in and then accept terms of use, then dump drive.
never had any problems doing it that way if it still dosent work try turning pc and 360 on go to boot menu plug sata into drive the boot iprep. just try differnt combos of booting and plugging in the sata.

what chipset are you using.
being that you are trying to flash a samsung with iprep you need a via6421a or L chipset.this pci sata card works great for the samsung and benq dvd drive.

Re: Help Needed! Drive wont flash
hey guys, thanks for the reply,
i am turing the 360 and pc on at the same time and plugging the sata in when it comes up with the terms and conditions accept page.
and i am using the VIA VT6421A.
i have the samsung MS28 drive.
I am using iprep 101 v006, i am following textbook's 'hacking the xbox360 for noobs' guide (plus the videos it links to). I only downloaded ixtreme 1.4 from xbins and the newest version of firmtool (1.1 to 1.2 i believe?). I didnt download the def file, as i dont think it was mentioned in the tut.
I am using a 1gb usb stick.
A couple of wierd things really, i have the VIA VT6421A card, but in the iprep drop down box, it shows as : VIA RAID Controller - 3249. I dont know if this will feck up the process in anyway? but i select and use it anyway seeing astho it says VIA (none of my other options say VIA on them)
Also when i click on prepare desination in iprep, it starts to do it, but then throws the error out at me of :
'Windows - Drive Not Ready'
'Exception Processing Message c00000a3 Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c'
It then gives me three options, 'cancel, try again or continue'. If i click on cancel, that box goes away, and then iprep seems to finish formatting the drive and gives me the 'Preparation Complete' dialoge.
so i then try to boot into dos via the usb, which goes fine, it loads up, then it comes up with that error i have stated earlier ......
No Drive Detected
Error: File BACKUPS\xxxxxxx\xxxxx\Sam-OFW.bin does not exist! Program Aborted!
so i really dont know what to do, or what that windows error means.....
if i have "bad word" this first bit up, will i have messed the 360 drive up and accidentally deleted the original FW? i just hope i havent "bad word" anything up with all these stupid error messages i hope someone can help me

Re: Help Needed! Drive wont flash
that is not going to work.
iprep must build the flash with NO errors.
if you are using vista, right click on the iprep program and run as a admin.
that may take care of your problem

Re: Help Needed! Drive wont flash
well you cant use the flash that iprep had the error on.
try a different usb flash drive.
just for kicks if you have a floppy try it on that.
trying to get a dump of your drives firmware on a floppy wont hurt anything.
if/when you do get a dump of the firmware remember to restart in windows after the dump and check your key with firmware toolbox v4.8.as long as its good then reboot on the iprep drive and flash.

i have tried a couple of usb drives and both give me the same results (the error)
so i think i might try and install the sata card in my downstairs computer tomorrow and see if that will do any better.
i will let you know how it goes, i just got so frustrated with it, i had to go out for a nice long walk haha

thanks

Re: Help Needed! Drive wont flash
oh by the way, one more quick question ..... do you only get one shot at dumping the original FW ? like if you managed to do it one time, would you be able to do it again (before putting on the hacked FW ofcourse) ?
Thanks
CJ

Re: Help Needed! Drive wont flash
you can dump the firmware over, and over if you want.
all your computer does when it dumps the firmware is copy it to the backup folder on the flash or floppy that iprep made.
crap man i think i got it.
Exception Processing Message :
Disable the floppy in your bios.
Most people get that error because their computer does not have a floppy drive, but it is still on in the bios.Go in to your bios and disable it.
that could fix your problem.

Re: Help Needed! Drive wont flash
right good news so far boyos!!
i have installed my sata card in my downstairs computer and used the drivers that came on the mini disc. I am now using iprep v006.2, have updated the def file by doing the 'check for updates', and have updated the firmtool to 1.2, it is now seeing the VIA VT6421A as what it should be in the dropdown box.... so far so good.
As for that windows error i kept getting when trying to create a bootable USB, i got it the first time when i tried to create a bootable usb on this new computer, but then I disabled my floppy disc drive (as you mentioned CoFree, thankyou) , and the error went away....... seems astho something was messing up having the floppy activated whilst doing this process.
So i am now at the stage where I have a PROPERLY formatted & bootable 1gb USB stick, I am going out for a couple of hours, but when i return, I will crack on with the flashing, and let you all know how it goes / any more problems.
Thanks for your help once again

Re: Help Needed! Drive wont flash
after your dump
restart in windows and check your firmware dump to make sure the key is good, and make a copy of the backup folder.
you must have that key if something goes wrong.
i save a copy of all my orig firmwares off of my computer.

Re: Help Needed! Drive wont flash
i have managed the make a successful dump to my USB stick. it said that everything was successful. I have booted back into windows and made a copy of the backup folder to various locations.
What do i use to check my firmware dump to make sure it is good?
Thanks

It's the key you need to check // make sure it's not all 000's of FFF's - it needs to be a random string of numbers

Re: Help Needed! Drive wont flash
get firmware toolbox v4.8
from here.
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... f=112&t=48" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
then you load in your firmware and make sure the key is good.
it should be all different letters and numbers.if it all the same letter or number then it is a bad key .you would need to dump it again till you get a good key.
most of the time you should get a good key.
did you see firmttool run and build your hacked firmware.
in the backup folder there should be two files one is "ofw" the hacked firmware will be "cfw"
you can check both firmware.
the "cfw" is the firmware that you will be flashing in your console.
by the way good job man.
