Maximus 360 extractor w/ spear COM Port not detected

I'm using a maximus w/ spear plugged into pc via usb.

This would be my second time attempting to mod an xbox 360. I figured this would be easier but i'm just stuck on the initial steps.

everything else seems to be ready to go but now there is no com port for me to pull the key off

Lite-on 74xx
using xp
via sata card (connected to internal port)

but I believe this has to do with the maximus not recognizing via usb.

iprep or jungleflasher.
i believe iprep needs the RS232 serial cable connected to com1
jf can use serial to usb

I'm unsure if serial to usb is the same as saying I'm plugged from the maximus 360 via usb directly to a usb in the back of my pc, but thats what i'm doing. I've already modded one but now as I attempt another I believe the usb is not recognizing the maximus this time so it tells me no com port detected.

Am I somewhat correct?

When you plug it in, does windows recognise anything?? Iirc, it should install as Prolific USB-Serial device...

Sometimes, JF doesn't show any ports as available - you have to type it in manually. I've had to do this a few times. Check Device Manager to see whether you have anything showing there, if you see anything showing a connection to a COM port, type that port into JF to see if that works.

If you can't see anything in DM, then the USB has fried on the Xtractor. Apparently, this can be caused by using low powered USB ports, mostly the ones you find on the front of a computer (rather than the ones directly connected to the motherboard). I know CK3 had a problem with this, but I'm not sure if xtractor suffers the same thing.

I have tried manually adding the port and nothing. I also don't hear anything recognizing a usb device. Thats why I wanted to try to reinstall anything that would possibly assist with recognizing the comport as active... if not then I'm forced to see if the serial port is a viable option.

And yes I always used the motherboard usb's in the back but I never saw, smelt, heard any warning there is a physical issue with the xtractor

I may have solved my own issue but I figured I'd post it.

The user manual for maximus xtractor states:

you have to d/l their usb drivers cdm 2.04 so next time you plug in the xtractor via usb cable Windows will detect it and create a Com port for it.

In my situation I already had it installed... now I want to uninstall it and attempt to reinstall this again. any ideas?

When I get a chance I'll attempt to remove and install. once i've completed this I'll post a reply.

Bottom Line::::::::

The spear doesn't work via usb anymore. I have reinstalled the usb drivers on O/S Win XP then attempted to use spear and still wont detect usb plugged in.

I bought a brand new cord even though i know the cord works still nothing.

I installed the usb drivers on another PC and attempted one last time. Still nothing.

Buying the stand alone USB Spear via maximus to try new spear.

usb on xtractor is bad from what I can tell.

This was through JF, I have no rs232 connector :(

Confirmed issue is with the spear that I had with the extractor 360 pro. I recently purchased the usb spear and now have a comport displaying.

Ofcourse, now i've tried windows 7 and get a Serial Data is bad on Jungle flasher and the maximus application reader crashes immediately.

it's running in 32bit so i'm kinda lost aside from reinstalling windows xp and trying on that os unless there is something i"ve missed.
