PlayStation Phone to Hit Shelves Next Year?

Fresh speculation concerning the development of a PlayStation-branded phone has reared its head, with Sony insiders reportedly indicating that a new handset modeled on the PSP could launch next year.

According to Marketing Week, Sony is said to be considering launching a PlayStation-branded phone that would incorporate elements of PSP functionality, possibly as soon as Christmas 2009.

The site claims that Sony would likely develop the new phone itself rather than in collaboration with Swedish mobile company Ericsson, which currently manufactures a number of phone handsets that incorporate Sony’s Walkman and Cyber-Shot brands.

One industry source told MW that the relationship between Sony and Ericsson had become “frosty”, while another suggested that Sony had already made up its mind that it would never allow the Swedish firm to use its PlayStation branding.

In November 2007 Sony shot down rumors that a PlayStation phone was in development after SCE’s co-chief operating officer, Jim Ryan, was “misquoted” as saying that convergence between Sony's PlayStation and Ericsson arms to create a console orientated phone was "definitely plausible".

probably it would but it might not look that good plus only psp users may use it, well christmas 2009 is pretty far. they should make a better psp console in gfx wise than adding those extras but it will be cool to play, talk, music, movies, internet, thats just crazy.

I think as far as graphics and such go, the psp is pretty good. Especially considering its a handheld.
