iphone uphone we all phone!

Just got a brand new iphone, and I use T-Mobile. So, within 5 minutes of coming home from the apple store, I have it unlocked and working perfectly on T-Mobile.

Question is, my friend has Verizon.......and wants an iphone too. I know they run on different networks (Verizon is CDMA based and T-Mobile/AT&T are GSM and have sim cards)

That said, I saw what looks like a hard-wired iphone on ebay claiming verizon support. I know Verizon doesn't use sims.

Can this be possible? Is it even in the realm of possibility that iphone can be Verizon-compatible?

TIA!!!

Unless they figured out a way to swap the technology from a Verizon phone and put it in the iPhone, I say not possible. It could be a fake though too...

Everything I've read says verizon is an entity to themselves. Their stuff is different from everyone else's. I would have to go with sccrbrandon on this one. Cool that you got it working on your network though.

I would never have used the expensive At&t plan, but to be honest I just did it out of curiosity to see if it was really as easy to unlock as it looked. I'm using T-Mobile prepaid so after two months my iphone has cost me $7.54 per month...I had been paying Verizon $50/month for my average 60 minutes of usage. Even after I paid the contract termination fee, it was only two months before I broke even!

The whole unlock process is aided by a GUI! Rediculous how simple it is compared with the process of learning an XBOX from beginning to end for the first time. I can't imagine plugging my xbox into my pc via usb and pressing 'click here to install firmware'

PLUS by default when you jailbreak the phone it installs a button on the mainscreen for one-touch installation and removal of several hundred 3rd party apps & games...quite ingenious!

+PLUS+ there is a new app out for the iphone which should allow porting of a different OS (here's hoping Windows Mobile on the iphone is an eventuality!) :)

I had looked at several chinese knock-offs before deciding iphone was the best choice. I mean, the knockoffs have some cool stuff but if something goes awry...your'e pretty much on your own. The iphones can be locked back to factory with one-touch so if something crashes, make apple figure it out ;) You can also easily use the iphone as a dual-sim phone once unlocked :?

I figure chinese customer service is akin to the following scenario -

China: Hello American consumer (giggle), what is the problem?
American Joe: Well the phone I just received has no 3 button and the OS language is native chinese!
China: Oh yes, yes, well...you can either send your phone back to us for a full refend (giggle) or....you can TRADE IT ALL IN FOR WHAT'S IN THE BOX THAT KUROSAWA IS BRINGING DOWN THE STAIRS RIGHT NOW!
