Firmware update knocks hackers for six

Sony looks to have fixed its jailbreak problem with a firmware update, after it was found that a program was able to get around the PlayStation 3's Fort Knox like protection system and run non-official games installed to an external hard drive.

Although there had been news recently that the jailbreak had hit mobile phones - this was after the PSJailbreak dongle version was banned by Sony - it seems that the games giant has seen fit to add additional "security features" to the PS3 which stops any unauthorised games working on the system.

No longer functional

According to Kotaku, website eXophase was the bearer of bad news to would-be hackers, explaining that "all variants of the USB-hub emulating exploit (PSFreedom, PSGroove, PSJailbreak) are no longer functional".

On Sony's official blog, the 3.42 firmware update is a minor update but one that does add an extra layer of security to the console.

Now that a workaround has been created, it's inevitable that jailbreakers will be going back to the drawing board to create a modified system.

This dont make sense, Just like it dont when the police come screaming to your house with the sirens blasting away and daft o clocks in the moring. As if they have told the world they have blocked it with an update, Like you say Coffree just dont update. As the Meercat says on the Adverts " Simples ".

You can get the 3.41 firmware here http://www.ps3news.com/forums/downloads.php?do=cat&id=8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; u need a flash stick make a folder named ps3 on the root and inside of that folder make a named update and put the firmware in there go system update on the ps3 Select [Update via Storage Media], and then press the x button. The system automatically searches for and finds the update data saved on the storage media or USB device. Press the x button to start the update. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

I got A .pup file on my desktop that apparently according to psgrove.com a few days ago was the 3.41 f/w now It has been taken down from there site ( well the playstation 3 site that was linked on there site to download) this was the post i got it from : http://psgroove.com/?p=428 At the time when I got It the post said get this before sony undate there site and take this down, then a downloadable link underneath.Can't confirm whether It Is or Isn't though.But If anyone wants this and can find out for sure whether It Is or whether It isn't, I'll upload It upon request or pm the downloadable link to cofree and I'm sure he'll find out for sure If It Is, then he can link it to the site or something.

Thanks guys, I got the 3.41 from a repsected private torrent site I been using for a long time. I havnt actually got my PS3 yet as its for crimbo but I just want everything in place and ready. So when I switch on my new PS3 it will obviously have an older FW on pre installed so where do I go from here, from the first steps to the last of plugging in a new PS3. My understanding is plug in the JB, Then switch on the PS3. Do I need to change the primary and secondary DNS before I update to 3.41 or after ? MY thinking is beforehand so it dont automatically update to 3.42. Im just dreading making a mistake somewhere and it updateing to 3.42 then Im cream crackered, So if anyone can post up step by step guide for the whole process on a brand new PS3 It would be greatly appreciated. Be good for others too and could go in the tutorials section.

My only concern with all this is the size of these Blue rays, They are absolutely huge in comparison to 360 games. Would take up some serious amount of HD space wont it

im looking at the droid stuff ever chance i get
im hearing it can be hard to root a droid after the 2.2 update i took last week

as far as the game are concerned
its like a wii when you backup one it does not keep all the padding so a 4gb wii iso can be as small as 700mb
the same goes for the ps3
you back up only the game info no padding
so most of the games are much smaller
but some can be big as crap
i think the biggest ive heard of is around 23gb.im not 100% on that

is it possible to downgrade?
