I haven't had the Wii on in a good few months and haven't updated since then obviously.
As far as I remember I am on system 3.1 ish (I will double check later)
I have a chip installed and have never had to update it, although I'm unsure which chip it is.
My question(s);
What do I need to do to safely update to whatever system menu is required at the moment?
I don't really want to softmod, I'd prefer to stick with the chip, any advice on this is welcome?
I would really like to try out the USB Loader, what do I need to be compatible? (I have WFBS Injector ready, just need to know which Cios and anything else Wii side etc I need/don't need?)
I will come back to the thread later with more detail, but if anyone can point me in the right direction and give me a rough idea what I need to know, ie my system menu version etc that would be most appreciated.
OK, my Wii is gathering dust, advice please?

the chips are being trouble right now
they have to release a new firmware that will have to be flashed in the chip for it to play the new games and most have not
imo
i would remove the chip
and update to the latest v4.2 wii firmware ,from wii itself
then do a soft mod banner bomb attack on it
the soft mod is by far working the best

Re: OK, my Wii is gathering dust, advice please?
Looking back over my old post, and realising I am at system menu 4.0E, should I follow the instructions given here;
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... 6d86d97c49" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
or update to 4.2 and run the stuff from there?
I have HBC from a while back using the twilight hack.
I have found this tutorial for 4.2, any advantages going to 4.2 and doing it this way?
Softmodding Requirements:
* Nintendo Wii with System Menu 4.2 (do NOT try on a system running a different System Menu version).
* SD Card – 512mb or higher.
* Softmodding Files – (I have them downloaded)
Part 1 – Installing the Homebrew Channel
* Run bannerbomb by going to the SD Card Menu (bottom left) & choosing yes to load boot.dol/elf. This runs the Hackmii Installer from which you should install the Homebrew Channel.
Part 2 – Restoring the Trucha Bug
* Run GP DOP-IOS MOD from the Homebrew Channel.
* Press A to continue.
* Go down to select Install an IOS that accepts fakesigning.
* Keep pressing A until it takes you back to the IOS selection screen.
* Choose IOS36 to start a stub removal process.
Part 3 – Installing cIOS and Patching the System Menu IOS
* Run WAD Manager 1.5 from the Homebrew Channel.
* Press + on whatever cIOS’s you want installed.
* If you will be playing backup games from DISC install these:
cIOS202[38+60]-v4.wad
cIOS222[38+37]-v4.wad
cIOS223[38]-v4.wad
cIOS249-v14.wad
cIOS250-v14.wad
IOS70-64-v6687[TB+ES_diV+NAND].wad
* If you will be playing backup games from USB install these:
cIOS202[38+60]-v4.wad
cIOS222[38+37]-v4.wad
cIOS223[38]-v4.wad
cIOS249-v15.wad or cIOS249-v16.wad
cIOS250-v15.wad or cIOS250-v16.wad
Install IOS70-64-v6687[TB+ES_diV+NAND].wad
* Once you have selected the cIOS’s using the + button, press 1 to install.
That’s it your Nintendo Wii should now be fully softmodded.
Other things I would suggest you install after you have followed the above steps would be:
* Priiloader – Disable Disc and Online Updates.
* Wiiflow – Load Wii Games via a USB Hard Drive.
* cIOSCORP – Load Backup Discs Directly from Disc Channel like Genuine Games.
Good luck and as I said above if you have any problems or questions please post them below.
Any help welcome

Re: OK, my Wii is gathering dust, advice please?
Cheers for your reply and PM mate,
I followed the guide above and I'm at 4.2, HBC installed.
I'm just trying to get the usb loader going now,
I have WBFS Manager on my PC, I've formatted it and I'm adding a game as I type, will this load when i start the usb loader?
I've tried loading the loader and its only went to a black screen, but this was before I formatted the USB drive.
Have I missed a step or should this work when I load her up?
Thanks for your help, also which is the best USB Loader around?
