Sprint, Verizon = CDMA
At&t, T-Mobile = GSM
iPhone = GSM
Dont go reading things about sim unlocking, sim unlocking does make it so the phone is able to be unlocked, and used with different carriers, but the phone will ONLY work on a GSM carrier.

Also any new phone now comes with OS 2.2.1 and cannot be unlocked as the baseband cannot be downgraded on these.

You can unlock 2.2.1, just not the one with the new baseband. My phone is 2.2.1
But yes, if you buy a new one now, you're going to have an unlockable 2.2.1 with the update
