some ppl tell me yes and some tell me no so i want the bottom line. i saw in the tutorial the person was using a VIA VT...... and i was wondering if i have to buy that too of if i can just plug my sata to my computer and use a external power to power up the dvd drive(i bough a special power outlet for that)
Yes you will need a SATA controller. whether or not the one on your mobo is compatible idk you can always try it before you go buy the other one though.

Just like hack said its a case of trying if it works it works if not the best advice i can give you is get a via6421 pci sata card

Thats exactly what i did. I have 3 pcs at my house all with onboard sata. i tried 2 of them to no avail and then went to order my via card. got impatient tried my 3rd system and whutta ya know it flashed but oh well now i have the card for whenever plus its easier to get to then the onboards.
